Prioritizing mental health in college can be challenging, especially during a pandemic. Whether that means not having access to proper resources, never learning about the importance of mental health or simply not knowing how to take a break, our mental health can easily be pushed to the bottom of our priority list.
The semester is coming to an end, papers are due, group projects are coming at you from every direction, assignments are piling up... the burn out is real and there never seems to be enough time in the day.
Let's be real...this pandemic and this semester have been hard on everyone for different reasons. We can't offer time or promise that it will all work out in your favor. However, we can offer some small tips to help try to ease anxiety and stress.
Find a hobby. Establish a small bit of consistency in your days. Find something that you can look forward to doing because you truly enjoy doing it.
Prioritize your physical health. Make smart eating choices, drink lots of water, connect with others, get exercise and a proper amount of sleep. All of these elements are connected to each other.
Find a good stress coping strategy. Find a way to deal with stress instead of letting it build up.
Quiet the mind. Meditation and prayer have been shown to increase calmness.
Mix it up. Routine can be comforting, but it can easily become boring. Try new things every once in a while, to keep it interesting.
Seek professional health if needed. While these 5 tips might help short-term, they are not long term solutions. Seek professional help if needed.
